Common Health Problems with Symptoms, Causes, Treatment and Prevention

Change! It can be a good or a bad thing. I know that I have been off the charts lately but I am back to writing blogs and am going to start writing blogs about medicine and biology too! It is a sudden interest spark in me and I am excited about this, so let's move forward.

Common health problems such as an Allergy, cold, flu, fever etc are easily treatable but can turn out to be dangerous if not treated in time. Here are some common health problems with symptoms, causes, treatment. I am also going to tell you how to prevent them from happening. Let's Start!

Allergies

Allergies are a common response to any allergen which can be in your food, through air etc.

Causes:  Some common allergens are foods such as nuts, eggs, milk etc. It can also be spread through air by pollen which is dust allergy. Some allergies may happen due to direct contact with an insect such as a mosquito. Sometimes if you have an allergy because the weather is too hot and you are sweating and you scratch there, and then scratch at another place, you can get an allergy there too. Sometimes these are just because of weather change.

Symptoms: Allergies caused through air contain symptoms such as Runny nose, eye irritation, stuffy nose, watery eyes, sneezing, itchy throat etc. Allergies caused through food contain symptoms such as Skin rashes, Gastrointestinal problems (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, excessing gas), Itchiness, difficulty breathing, swelling on the face, Fainting or lightheadedness etc.

Treatment: While medications may help, you should make some changes to your lifestyle too, like keeping your surroundings clean and avoiding contact with the allergen or in case of food, avoid eating it.

Prevention: For pollen allergies, you should avoid to go out when pollen counts are high and keep your windows shut. For food ones, you just gotta watch what you eat.

Cold and Flu

Cold and Influenza (flu) are the most common illnesses among children.

Causes: Both of these illnesses are related to your nose, throat and lungs. They are caused by viruses and often are caused because of hand-to-hand contact.

Symptoms: Flu symptoms include Fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit), Headache, Intense pain and fatigue, Cough etc. Cold symptoms include Runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, cough etc.

Treatment: Seek medical attention if:

·      A fever of 103 degrees fahrenheit or more (could indicate a serious infection)

·      Cough continues to exist with a significant fever (could trigger pneumonia)

·      Sore throat especially if runny nose does not happen (could indicate a strep infection)

That was it for the first medical blog, lemme know if you liked it. I feel like it is a nice change and I will still be consistent with my Physics blogs. At least I did something good for you because now you know what to do if any of these symptoms hit you.

Hear Me Out: The Fascinating World of the Ears!

Hey!  It's been a long time since I picked your brain. Lemme ask you a simple yet fascinating question- What is Sound? The scientific answer to the question is that sound is nothing but vibrations in the air molecules which get picked up by our ears and then get converted into something that makes sense, but how our ears take those vibrations in and then convert them into information is the spicy part! Today, in this blog I am going to answer a lot of mind intriguing questions such as Why do you get dizzy in a rollercoaster or what happens when you wear earphones for too long.  Let's start! Hearing & Balance- They are Interconnected! As you might know, we have 5 sense organs- Ear, Nose, Eyes, Skin and Tongue. They are known as "Sense" organs because they help us sense the world around us. Today, we are going to be focusing on one of them which helps us hear! You got it- Ears .  You might not know this but our ears play a great role in maintaining the ...

Anatomy 101: Directional Language and The Skeletal System

Hey! Today we are going to talk about your bones, which make up your body's basic framework and constitute the Skeletal System. I have got another interesting thing planned for today's blog and that is learning about the basic anatomical directional terms. Let's start! The Language of Doctors: Anatomical Language Anatomical language is often referred to as the Language of Doctors, because it is how doctors talk to each other while describing a patient and also how they remember the names of a lot of body parts. Today, we are not going to talk about a lot of it, because trust me, there is a lot of it! We are going to step-by-step. Let's start with basic directional terms, shall we? This is known as the Classic Anatomical Position where the body is erect and facing forward, with arms at sides and palms forward. Now, imagine slicing that body into different sections or planes, you would get 4 planes. When you slice it vertically, dividing it into left and right, you wou...

Reading The Mind of God: A Look into String Theory

This post has been a dream of mine for a long time — and if you love physics, I can proudly say this will be my best blog yet. " If we can unify gravity and quantum mechanics and develop a Theory of Everything, we will be able to read the mind of god "- Stephen Hawking in his book: A Brief History of Time "God doesn't play dice with the universe"- Albert Einstein on Quantum Mechanics "I think I can safely say nobody understands Quantum Mechanics"- Richard Feynman in an interview "String theory is rich enough to explain all the fundamental laws of nature.  I t seems nothing less than a miracle that, starting from some purely geometric arguments from a string, one is able to rederive the entire progress of physics for the past two millennia.”- Michio Kaku in his book: A Scientific Odyssey Hey!   No better way to start a physics blog than some quotes from the best people to have done it. Stephen Hawking introduced Hawking radiation and t...
